About Marilyn
Marilyn Colter was a newspaper editor when her husband was brain injured during surgery. Daughter of a ranch family, she had been taught to be tough when times were hard, but head injury was the hardest thing she’d ever faced. “There seemed to be no information out there about how to get our family through this dark time,” she says. “Everyone’s focus was on Dale but we were struggling with our own emotional, financial and relationship chaos too. So I did what I knew how to do; I started researching and writing.” Missing Pieces: Mending the Head Injury Family is the result. Marilyn worked as a reporter and editor for newspapers, books, magazines and newsletters, and as a freelance writer for 20 years. She served as a faculty member at Colorado State University for seven years, a Library Director for 10 years, and now owns her own business in northern Colorado. As part of her commitment to provide support for head injury families, she has served as president of her local head injury support group, served on her community’s disability commission, and as a peer counselor for families of head injury patients. She has spoken to numerous groups about the importance of providing information and support for families of head injury victims and she has received awards for her work to raise awareness of the needs of head injury families. |
